30 Aug 2021 - Poetry@TECH Fall 2021 events list announced

Dear Friends of P@T,

Belarusian event screen captureWhat a long, strange year-and-a-half it's been!

When we moved our 2020-21 poetry events to a virtual format, it was with a not-insignificant amount of trepidation. Would a virtual format work? Could we still have the energy of a live poetry reading? Would our audience find it convenient to attend and interact with our poets? In short, could Poetry@TECH survive as a virtual presence?

Maggie Smith readinWhy were we even worried?

Over the past year, alongside our regular workshop groups, we hosted no fewer than six (yes, SIX!) powerful readings from poets around the world and three craft workshops of the highest caliber led by the incomparably generous Maggie Smith and our Georgia Tech poets, Ilya Kaminsky and Travis Denton - all hosted virtually over Bluejeans.

We celebrated the release of Chioma Urama's debut collection of generation-spanning poems, watched German poets and American poets converse in our first ever International Poetry and Translation Festival, and listened in awed silence as Belarusian poets fighting oppression and unlawful detention shared their voices with us. We remember Danez Smith bringing an audience of over 400 people to tears with their reading of 'Litany with Blood All Over', after which Ross Gay delighted us with a catalog of unabashed gratitude.

Our audience grew manifold. We had poetry afficionados join us not just from Georgia, or even the US, but from around the world -- Singapore, Japan, Peru, Pakistan, India, Russia, Belarus, Korea; people who woke up earlier than anyone ought to, or stayed up through the night to become a part of the Poetry@TECH!

Oh, and guess what, we also released two special translation issues of Terminus, our arts and poetry magazine, for online reading!

Ilya workshop

In a year whose raison d'être seemed to be chaos and anxiety, when humanity as a whole appeared stop-still and yet also to careen downhill under the treacherous gravity of circumstance, poetry became our small foxhole of refuge, and you, our friends and generous partners, beacons of light in a dark cave. 'Thank you' is a wholly inadequate phrase to describe our gratitude for your love and your presence.

Together, we continue. And endure. And--to paraphrase Maya Angelou--we rise.

We at Poetry@TECH are excited to announce our Poetry@TECH events for the Fall 2021 season!

We hope to be back to live events in the spring, but for now,  we continue to be safe and responsible by hosting our events virtually. We're so excited to bring to you a Fall semester of beautiful poetry. Please join us for three poetry readings and four workshops, all free and open to the public.

We hope to see you and yours there! We'll be posting more information about each event as the date nears. Meanwhile, check out our EVENTS page to see who's reading this fall at P@T.

Let us know if you have any questions at all.

Only Good Things,
Poetry@TECH

20 Jan 2021 - Spring 2021 P@T Readings - lineup announced

Dear Friends of P@T--

We are excited to announce the Spring 2021 lineup of readings at Poetry@Tech.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the readings in the 2020-21 Poetry@Tech season are virtual. While this means we cannot enjoy your company in person, it also means each of you can attend the events from the comfort of your homes.

The Fall 2020 semester was our first attempt at hosting virtual events, and we are glad to report that these were resounding successes, with over 200 attendees at each of our events.

We are excited to see you all at our Spring virtual readings. We have a wonderful line-up of Spring poets - Natalie Diaz, Maggie Smith, Arthur Sze, Chioma Urama, and other wonderful poets. We are also proud to host the 2nd edition of the Poetry & Translation Summit, this time bringing together in conversation incredible poets from Belarussia and the US.

Check out our EVENTS page to see who's reading this Spring at P@T.
