A Brief History of Poetry@Tech
Founded in 2001 by renowned poet Thomas Lux, Poetry@Tech was established to bring the power of poetry and language into the heart of Georgia Tech’s innovative campus. Lux envisioned a space where imagination and intellect would meet—where science and technology could coexist with creativity, empathy, and artistic expression.
As the Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne Jr. Chair in Poetry, Lux led Poetry@Tech with humor, vision, and generosity, inviting some of the world’s most celebrated poets to campus and mentoring a new generation of voices. Under his direction, the program became a national model for integrating poetry into a STEM-focused institution.
Today, Poetry@Tech continues to honor his legacy through vibrant public readings, workshops, student-centered programming, and an enduring commitment to making poetry accessible and alive for all. The spirit of Lux—his passion, wit, and belief in the transformative power of language—remains at the core of everything we do.
